One of the rooms we reserved had a little kitchenette with a 4-burner stove, small fridge, table and chairs, 2 couches, kitchen sink and dishes. We got two rooms for five adults - together they both turned out to be about 1300 pesos a night, and they were very nice and clean rooms. Beside this hotel is a little hole in the wall restaurant that actually had the best Margaritas I had in Mexico.…Īlthough the name is listed as "Hostal Cantarranas," this is a hotel, not a hostel. On the same street and about one block toward the plaza is the infamous El Incendio Cantina, with urinal beside the bar. There is a gazebo in the middle and one afternoon we heard some great Mexican music and watched couples dance. A very short walk gets you to the main plaza where all the restaurants/bars/shops and vendors are located. One night I could hear music and some people came in late and made some noise. It was a mattress on top of a concrete platform bed. One note, it was the hardest bed I have ever slept on. Room are really unique, but they were clean. We had our breakfast here several mornings. There is a great rooftop area with terrific views, table and chairs and lounge chairs. But was only 450 pesos ($35 US) for a single and 625 ($49 US) for a double. No elevator, little English, they asked for cash/pesos. They even have a big pot of coffee near the office in the mornings. But if you are interested in clean, inexpensive, and near everything you want to see, then this is a great place. It wasn't fancy and certainly not a 5 or even 4 star hotel, maybe not evern a 3. This unique hotel was recommended by a resident of San Miguel de Allende, a nearby town. Yes, I would go back, but with earplugs again.… The hotel is a reasonably good value for it's location and rooms. Or expect some noise and bring some earplugs for weekends. If you want quiet, come on Sunday-Thursday. Then sleep in the afternoon when they get home. I had the impression that groups come to Guanajuato, rent rooms at the Cantarranas intended for 4-6 people and nip out to a nearby club or two and party all night. Having earplugs allows us to sleep fine after that. Several calls and visits to the reception got them to quiet down a bit. The walls are fairly thin so we could hear their drunken laughter. The second night a group enjoyed an evening party until about midnight and then returned from the bar at 4am and continued the party. We slept like logs and enjoyed everything about Guanajuato. Just 1 floor above our room is a rooftop terrace that's good for relaxing with a drink and a good view of the city. The room was big and pleasant and we couldn't hear any traffic noize. There were places to buy drinks and small snacks right next door. The location of the hotel is superb, very near the Teatro Juarez. It wasn't so easy to get inside so I was impressed that would allow me to do so. The receptionist kindly allowed me to park my motorcycle by the reception desk. My girlfriend and I stayed in room 106 for 2 nights at the Hostal Cantarranas on Feb 7-8, 2014.
